Many ACFID Member organisations offer internship opportunities to students and recent graduates, to help build their capacity and experience in the sector.

Below is a selection of these opportunities. However, you’re also encouraged to visit the individual websites of other ACFID Members to see whether they’re offering internships at this time.

UNICEF Australia

UNICEF Australia fundraises and advocates for the world's most vulnerable children. UNICEF works on the ground in over 150 different countries and territories to help children survive and thrive from early childhood through adolescence.

UNICEF Australia offers a competitive internship program, giving interns a chance to work alongside some of Australia's best not-for-profit professionals, improve and expand their skills, and gain extensive experience with one of the world's leading international organisations.

Oxfam International Youth Partnerships (OIYP)

Internship placements at Oxfam Australia are a fantastic opportunity for students to gain valuable experience in the sector while gaining accreditation towards the completion of relevant studies. Please note their internships are reserved for students enrolled in Australian universities only. Internships are a three-way formal agreement between Oxfam Australia, the tertiary institution and the student. They are unpaid placements and can be taken up by students at any time throughout the year.

Opportunity International Australia

Opportunity International Australia exists to provide opportunities for people living in poverty to transform their lives. With over 40 years of experience in microfinance and support services, Opportunity International Australia uses a business approach to solve poverty.

The Opportunity International Australia Internship Program offers internships at their Sydney office. The internship lasts approximately four and a half months and start at various times of the year. Internships are voluntary positions with interns responsible for their own travel, living expenses and any visa requirements.

RedR Australia

RedR Australia relieves suffering in disasters by selecting, training and providing competent and committed personnel to humanitarian relief agencies worldwide. We are guided by our values of Accountability, Integrity, Empathy and Collaboration. An internship with RedR Australia will provide exposure to the operations of RedR Australia and insights into the humanitarian sector. RedR Australia’s internship program aims to empower junior/entry-level professionals by providing meaningful learning opportunities and opportunities to engage in hands-on tasks, equipping them with relevant skills and tools for success.

Interns will engage in various activities to strengthen their professional experience and these may support the learning outcomes as part of their university competency requirements. Opportunities for internships vary across each intake and all are undertaken at our Carlton office.

We host internships around the following months:

* February to April
* May to July
* August to October
