About the Program

Managed by Abt Associates, the Specialist Health Service (SHS) provides strategic input on health to the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The SHS is the primary source from which DFAT accesses health and development expertise and advisory services to improve the quality of health programming across DFAT’s global and regional health portfolio, through enabling access to responsive technical advice and support.

About the Opportunity

GHD is seeking advisers (multiple positions available) to support the implementation of the Partnerships for a Healthy Region Initiative. We are interested in applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas – immunization planning and delivery, deployments and clinical surge preparedness, health workforce development, pathogen surveillance and laboratory strengthening, vector surveillance and control, regulatory strengthening, managing strategic partnerships, community-based health, universal health coverage, non-communicable diseases, health system strengthening, and health information management.

The Health Program Advisers will be responsible for:
• Provide advice and technical knowledge to support program implementation
• Manage the implementation of health programs in the Pacific and Southeast Asia, including program design; contracting; financial and program management
• Prepare high quality written material to support program implementation
• Liaise with sections, external agencies and stakeholders to facilitate planning of program delivery
• Build and maintain effective working relationships
• Monitor and report on health developments in the Indo-Pacific as directed
• Undertake other duties as required.

About You

We are seeking individuals who will bring:
• Experience in international development, health programs or in an analytical or advisory role
• Relevant tertiary qualifications or experience in public health, international development, project management, government, or related fields
• Excellent representation and negotiation skills
• Excellent written English skills, with demonstrated ability to convey complex ideas clearly and succinctly
• Innovative problem-solving skills
• Willingness to adapt to a dynamic work environment and contribute to a shared effort to deliver work to a high standard and by set deadlines
• Capacity to work collaboratively in teamwork environment and independently with limited guidance
• Knowledge of development issues in the Indo-Pacific
• Has, or has the ability to obtain a baseline security clearance (minimum) or an NV1 security clearance (preferred)
• Excellent written and oral English communication skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds
• Desire to contribute to an inclusive and supportive professional environment, where diversity is celebrated

Desirable
• Experience in health program management, including design, implementation, delivery and monitoring and evaluation
• Previous experience working with DFAT
• First-hand experience in developing countries/the Indo-Pacific
