ACFID Celebrates Leaders in International Development and Humanitarian Assistance

31 Jan, 2020

ACFID has extended its congratulations to leaders in the sector who have been recognised in the Australian of the Year Awards and the Australian Day Honours List, and welcomed the progress made on gender equality across Australian honours.

ACFID CEO, Marc Purcell, said:

“We would like to pay tribute to awardees right across our membership who have been recognised for their significant and sustained service to the international community.”

Co-founder of ACFID member Sight for All, James Muecke, was awarded Australian of the Year 2020 and Australia Day honours awardees across ACFID’s membership included the late Guy Winship OAM of Good Return, former ACFID President the Hon Dr Meredith Burgman AM, former Chair of the ACFID Code of Conduct Committee, Christine Franks AM, and former CEO of RESULTS International, Maree Nutt OAM.

“On behalf of the international development sector, I would like to congratulate James Muecke on becoming Australian of the Year and all those who have been recognised this year in the Australia Day Honours.

“These awards are a testament to their long-standing commitment to poverty alleviation and the well-being of Australia’s neighbours and people around the world.”

ACFID also welcomed the progress made on gender equality across Australia honours and the work of #HonourAWoman. In 2020, 41.6% of all awardees of the Australia Day honours were women, a continued increase on previous years.

Marc Purcell continued:

“While there is still some way to go, the Honour a Woman movement has drawn significant attention to the inequity in the honours system and we are seeing welcome progress on redressing the imbalance between men and women.”

ACFID would like to warmly congratulate individuals represented across its membership. If we have overlooked individuals, please write to [email protected].
