The Weekly
Marc Purcell, what is at the top of your mind this week?
ACFID’s board will be meeting with Foreign Minister, Senator Penny Wong, and Minister for International Development and the Pacific, Pat Conroy, next week in Adelaide. We look forward to discussing progress on the Government’s Development Agenda so far, and we will be proposing some initiatives for Ministers to consider if the Albanese government is reelected for a second term. Stay tuned for further updates.
This week, ACFID has joined Australian organizations, including Amnesty International, Oxfam Australia, Save the Children, Plan International Australia, ActionAid, Muslim Aid Australia, APHEDA-UnionAid Abroad, Australian Palestinian Advocacy Network (APAN), and Trade Unionists for Palestine, in supporting the global call for the suspension of trade in defense materials contributing to Israeli weapons that may be used against civilians in Gaza. See the joint statement.
Additionally, this week, ACFID hosted colleagues from the Cooperation Committee for Cambodia (CCC) and representatives from Cambodian civil society organizations. CCC and ACFID collaborate on The Global Standard Partnership, which aims to enable CSOs worldwide to strengthen their accountability practices, prioritize people to build trust in the sector, confront challenges to civic space, and promote the use of the Global Standard in dynamic accountability with donors, governments, and international organizations.
