The Weekly

Marc Purcell, what is at the top of your mind this week?

This week, ACFID, along with the Australian Global Health Alliance (AGHA), the National Council of Churches in Australia (NCCA), and the Australian National Imams Council (ANIC), issued a statement urging the Australian Government to hold Israel accountable for blocking life-saving aid to Gaza and employing starvation as a weapon of war.

In an article published by The Guardian, ACFID highlighted the concerns of humanitarian groups regarding the Israeli military’s prior knowledge of the Gaza convoy tragedy and ongoing coordination and negotiation efforts with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) regarding aid and personnel movement.

In our joint media release, we call on the Australian Government to:

  • Apply and implement targeted sanctions on Israeli officials who have called for the denial of aid, and military and civil servants denying essential food and materials to civilians of Gaza;
  • End any trade for military purposes between Australian and Israeli companies;
    Use all diplomatic measures to achieve a permanent ceasefire.
