The Weekly

Marc Purcell, what is at the top of your mind this week?

With the 2024 ACFID Conference just weeks away, we’re excited to introduce some of the remarkable speakers for our Plenary and Concurrent Sessions. Speaking on a wide range of topics related to our conference theme, “Solidarity and Resilience: The Power of the Collective,” this week’s featured speakers are leaders from the Solomon Islands, Uruguay, Nepal, Uganda, Thailand, and Tuvalu.

  • Anabel Cruz, Founder and Director at the Communication and Development Institute, Uruguay
  • Arthur Larok, Secretary General at ActionAid International
  • Pradip Pariyar, Founder and Chairperson at Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance, Nepal
  • Cynthia Houniuhi, President at Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change
  • Mark Zirnsak, Spokesperson at the Tax Justice Network Australia
  • Saengrawee Suweerakan, Steering Committee Member at the Network of Indigenous Women in Asia
  • David Tuck, Head of Mission in Australia, International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
  • Gitty Yee, Communications Officer at Tuvalu Climate Action Network (TuCAN)

This week, we received strong nominations for the “Outstanding Contribution to the Sector Award” and the “Sir Ronald Wilson Human Rights Award.” The board will decide the winners, who will be announced at the conference dinner.

We are also delighted to welcome His Excellency Mr. Gabriele Visentin, EU Ambassador to Australia, who will speak on the EU’s approach to development in the Pacific. We are grateful to have the European Union Delegation to Australia as a Platinum Sponsor for this year’s conference.

Be sure to review the exciting conference program and secure your registration if you haven’t done so yet!
