The Weekly
Matthew Maury, what is at the top of your mind this week?
This week Melbourne is hosting Women Deliver, bringing together more than 5,000 participants from 189 countries for one of the most significant global gatherings on gender equality and women’s health and rights. It’s been terrific to see so many ACFID members leading, moderating and contributing to sessions across the program — demonstrating both the depth of expertise within our sector and Australia’s continued engagement with global feminist leadership. Events like this matter, not just for the conversations they generate, but for the partnerships and momentum they help to build well beyond the conference halls.
Looking ahead to next week, I encourage Sydney-based members to attend our meeting with Minister for International Development, Dr Anne Aly, on the morning of the 5th of May. This is an important opportunity to hear from the Minister and to share perspectives on how the fuel crisis and the ongoing war in the Middle East are affecting our collective work — from program delivery and concerns about food insecurity around the world to funding pressures and humanitarian access. Hearing from our members can help shape government priorities to support our work.
ACFID is also convening an online meeting next week for members working with managing contractors who are interested in discussing propositions for stronger, more effective partnerships. If you’re navigating these relationships and keen to explore what better collaboration could look like in practice, I encourage you to join the conversation. We are keen to continue to collect case studies that showcase both the good and the bad of your experiences so we can use these to work with DFAT and the IDCC for constructive changes. If you have not already registered – please contact Ujjwal ([email protected]) at our office to participate.
If your CEO would like to be involved in ACFID’s electorate‑based lobbying this year, we will be organising meetings in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.Â
If you are interested, please register here.Â
