The Weekly

Marc Purcell, what is at the top of your mind this week?

This week concluded the CEO Roundtable Series on Leading the Charge: Navigating a Path towards Racial Justice. Over 24 CEOs and board members came together in Sydney and Melbourne, and discussed how leadership can contribute to racial justice within their organisations.

CEO agreed there were opportunities to:

Advocate the issue of racial justice to our boards and encourage board diversity. Have difficult conversations.
Focus on implementing anti-racist trainings and on improving governance. Policies are only a starting point.
Investment time, resources, and self-reflection to understand racism in the sector and in within our organsiations.
ACFID has resolved to build greater representation, amplified anti-racist practices within the Code of Conduct, and asked the question, ‘How can we yield power?’.

Some other useful resources that have been shared are:

ACFID Racial Justice CoP’s Racial Justice Resource Library Guide
Upcoming webinar on ‘The Difference between Identity and Lived Experience’ (16 May)
An anti-oppressive workplace toolkit developed by Hue: The Conversation
ACFID members can still participate virtually on April 30th, details below.

AP4D Symposium: Using All Tools of Statecraft in the Information Environment

The global information environment is part of modern Australian political, economic and social life, bringing with it new kinds of connectivity and opportunity. At the same time, it is a vector for serious threats to Australia’s national interests, such as foreign interference in the country’s democratic political system, as well as to global stability more broadly. How can Australia best mitigate the risks and capitalise on the benefits?

You are warmly invited to attend the online launch of a new paper from the Asia-Pacific Development, Diplomacy & Defence Dialogue (AP4D): ‘What does it look like for Australia to use all tools of statecraft in the information environment’.

Join us to hear from some of Australia’s foremost experts on information and communications practices why a healthy information environment is critical, and how Australia can leverage a whole-of-nation approach to positively shape the information domain.
