The Weekly
The voting has concluded and the results for the Federal Elections are almost finalised. ACFID is already beginning to set meetings with the incoming government and key leaders across all parties to discuss priorities for this term of government. It is also important to note that our advocacy efforts don’t stop when the election ends. This week, the Safer World for All campaign renewed its voice for a growing and effective aid program. While we welcomed the Labor Government’s budget commitment to maintain current aid levels, we remain resolute in working with the new Parliament to enhance Australia’s support for global development and humanitarian relief. Find the Safer World for All media release here.
Also this week, ACFID launched the first webinar in our series, Impactful Partnerships: Addressing Current Needs Together, co-hosted with AIDN. It marked an important step toward deepening meaningful dialogue between ACFID members and the philanthropic sector.
There’s still time to join us for the upcoming workshops, where we’ll be exploring key areas including Humanitarian Response, Sustaining Local Capacity, and Health.

Meeting compliance against the revised Code (webinar)
After a rigorous review, the revised ACFID Code of Conduct was ushered in June 2024. Now that members have had a chance to review their policies, formulate action plans, and report against the revised Code, what have we learned? What are the trends in reporting? How can Members with upcoming reporting meet compliance?
This 90-minute webinar, hosted by the Code Team, with a special guest from the Code of Conduct Committee (CCC), will answer these questions and more.
This event is aimed at all staff members and leadership teams that hold a responsibility for Code compliance, and are due to report on 30 May, 31 August 2025 and 30 November 2025.
Date:Â Tues, 13 May 2025

Request for information on Global Aid Freezes
Accountability Lab and Humentum are updating their global data on the impacts of Global Aid Freezes. They seek organisations (including INGOs, CSOs, Consultants, Contractors) to provide information on the challenges they are facing and how they are seeing the sector impacted. Earlier iterations of this data can be found here and the new survey to be completed is here. Please feel free to share with your networks and partners.
Food for thought
AP4D Executive Director Melissa Conley Tyler was struck by the different narratives on Western aid cuts she heard while at the 2025 Raisina Dialogue in India. Writing for Development Policy Centre, Melissa notes that “a key part of this discourse was about self-reliance and creating an ecosystem that doesn’t rely on foreign assistance.”
“As Australia starts to imagine what the future of development may look like, it will inevitably be part of a global debate. At a time of massive change for development worldwide, we should keep the full range of perspectives in mind.”
