Marc Purcell, what is at the top of your mind this week?

ACFID is hosting a special ACFID Connect event on Tuesday, 20 August, in Melbourne for CEOs, Board members, and senior executives. This event includes networking opportunities and discussions with ACNC Commissioner Sue Woodward AM and AI experts from Dalberg Advisors.

 

Thank you to everyone who has already registered; you should have received a calendar invite confirming your registration. If you have not yet registered, please do so by 10 am Monday, 19 August (AEST).

 

The agenda features an “AI for Social Good” workshop from 12:30-2:30 pm, focusing on AI’s role in NGOs and achieving SDGs, followed by a Roundtable with the ACNC Commissioner with Sue Woodward AM from 3-4 pm, discussing charity sector trends and ACNC priorities.

 

ACFID is also encouraging CEOs to lead in the Safer World for All election campaign by raising awareness with their supporters. Agencies can commit to various campaign actions through this link. More information in the sections below.

This is a reminder that all CEOs received the link below to fill out their agency’s commitments for the Safer World for All campaign election digital action. This includes indicating whether your agency can email supporters, engage influencers, and/or host electoral forums.

ACFID Member Visits – Melbourne workshops registration open

ACFID’s Policy & Advocacy team will be visiting Melbourne from the 27th – 29th August. Melbourne-based members can fill in this registation form to indicate the policy and advocacy workshops you would like to attend, and to request individual meetings with members of our team. The schedule for the visit is below, with locations and agendas for each workshop to come.

Tuesday 27 August
1-4 PM – Glitter, sequins, no holds barred – The ACFID Policy Précis of 2024 – an introduction to the team, and our policy and advocacy work in 2024, as well as planning ahead for the Federal Election and beyond.

Wednesday 28 August
10-11.30 AM – Climate policy and advocacy workshop
1-2.30 PM – Media and comms workshop
3-4.30 PM – Government relations workshop

Thursday 29 August
Meetings with individual members and teams based on portfolio/subject areas.

We are the Rainbow – framework launch by Many Coloured Sky

When: Tuesday, 20 August 2024, 15:00-16:30 (CBR time)

Please join ACFID for afternoon tea to launch the new We are the Rainbow framework with Many Coloured Sky Executive Director, Ian Seal.

Many Coloured Sky is the queer development agency, supporting LGBTQIA+ organisations across developing countries with capacity building, planning and project development. They empower those at the margins and intersections of LGBTQIA+ communities to participate fully and equally. Many Coloured Sky has projects across the Asia Pacific region, in Kenya, and via anonymous partners in Uganda.  

ACFID is joining forces with Many Coloured Sky to launch the ‘We are the Rainbow’ framework at ACFID House in August and Australian Parliament House in September. This framework seeks to support LGBTQIA+ organisations to work with LGBTQIA+ children and youth in ways that protect their rights as children and as LGBTQIA+ people. The framework has been developed via consultation with region-wide LGBTQIA+ peaks, international child protection agencies, and development organisations.

Not-for-profit organisations training – Engaging with Senate committees

Date: 1 May and 23 October

Time: 10:00 am-12:00 pm

Format: Online

Cost: Free

 

Target audience: Representatives from not-for-profit organisations

Purpose: This session is designed to introduce representatives from not-for-profit organisations to the Senate’s committee system. It will explore the purposes, powers and operation of different types of committees. Participants will receive practical information about engaging with Senate committees, including preparing

submissions and providing evidence at committee hearings.

Celebration event – launch of the new ACFID Code of Conduct!

Join us to celebrate ACFID’s new Code of Conduct and the amazing work that ACFID members do to meet their commitments under the Code. The launch will include an address by the ACNC Commissioner and be followed by drinks and nibbles. All personnel from ACFID member organisations are welcome.

Call Out: ACFID Annual Report Member Images

ACFID is currently compiling our annual report, highlighting the impactful work of our members in aid and development. We’re seeking high-resolution images showcasing efforts in climate change, locally led development, and humanitarian assistance. We’ll credit your organization and photographer, with captions up to 80 words. The images may appear on our website, social media, and publications for government, policymakers, DFAT, civil society, and others.
