The Weekly
Marc Purcell, what is at the top of your mind this week?
The President of the World Bank Ajay Banga visited ACFID this week, of the back of his attendance at the Pacific Island Forum Leaders meeting, and joined 70 ACFID CEOs, Board members and Executives for a consultation on the Bank’s mission and priorities and approach to Climate and safeguards. Melissa Connelly Tyler of the Asia Pacific Development, Diplomacy and Defence Dialogue, summarises the President’s messages here
Additionally, ACFID thanks everyone who joined this week’s briefing on the Safer World for All digital campaign, which is part of our Federal Election Strategy. As we prepare for the campaign launch on 16th September, your involvement is vital.
For those who missed it, we’ve provided a summary and key steps your agency can take.
Our focus remains clear: urging Australia to commit 1% of the Federal Budget to Official Development Assistance (ODA). Over the next 8 weeks, we aim to mobilize 20,000 people to email their MPs in support of this initiative.
You can access the presentation slides here and the ZOOM recording here
Next Steps:
1.Amplify the ‘Email Your MP’ action using our Digital Campaign Partner Pack.
2.Prepare for the Day of Action on 24th October by engaging influencers.
3.Join the Digital Working Group by contacting Naomi Brooks.
Your support is key to driving this campaign forward!

AP4D Dialogue | Australia’s preparedness for regional stabilisation missions
Regional missions to Bougainville, Timor-Leste and Solomon Islands in recent decades are widely considered successful examples of stabilisation and peacekeeping operations. But how ready would Australia be to undertake something similar today? And what would that look like?
Join us for this interactive dialogue to explore Australia’s preparedness to undertake regional stabilisation activities. Facilitated discussion will focus on the types of contingencies that could require a response, Australia’s role and current capacity to do so, and ways to enhance preparedness. The recent announcement of a Pacific Islands Forum mission to New Caledonia makes this particularly topical.
