Position Purpose:

The Managing Director of Dana Asia Social Business Fund (Philippines) will oversee the successful implementation of social business projects under Dana Asia’s Social Business Fund, leading and managing all aspects of the fund’s operations, investments, effective project implementation, and strategic growth. This role requires a visionary leader with strong investment expertise, a passion for social impact, and a proven track record in managing funds or social enterprise portfolios. The MD will be responsible for building a diverse and high-impact portfolio, fostering relationships with investors and partners, and ensuring that all projects under the Social Business Fund are meeting both financial and social impact objectives.

Main duties

Fund strategy and leadership

● Develop and execute the Social Business Fund’s strategic vision and investment strategy, ensuring alignment with impact and financial goals.
● Define and oversee fund objectives, investment criteria, and risk management frameworks to build a portfolio of high-impact, sustainable social businesses.
● Identify emerging trends and opportunities in the social business and impact investing sectors to guide fund growth and adaptability.

SBF management

● Structure, negotiate, and approve SBF investments to partner implementers, ensuring reasonable terms.
● Monitor and manage the performance of SBF implementers, providing strategic guidance to optimise their impact and financial performance.

Financial oversight & governance

● Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure fund stability and alignment with long-term goals.
● Prepare regular financial and impact reports for investors, detailing fund performance, returns, and measurable social outcomes.
● Drafting board papers for board meetings and reporting to DA boards on fi nancial performance and impact.
● Ensure compliance and local governance in the Philippines.

Stakeholder engagement and partnerships

● Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including investors, partners, social enterprises, and sector leaders.
● Represent the fund at conferences, industry events, and in media to enhance the fund’s visibility and reputation.
● Develop strategic partnerships that support portfolio companies, enhance impact outcomes, and strengthen the social business ecosystem.

Team leadership and development

● Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team to support investment activities, portfolio management, and fund operations.
● Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and impact-driven performance, ensuring team and partner alignment with goals.
Impact measurement and reporting

● Work with Dana Asia’s Impact Monitoring Manager to develop and implement a robust impact measurement framework to track social and environmental outcomes across the SBF portfolio.
● Analyse and report on impact metrics to Dana Asia Ltd, providing transparent insights into the social returns achieved through investments.

Core competencies:

– Experience in similar roles for international organisations is preferable.
– The successful candidate will be an experienced manager who is proactive in driving progress and has proven successful in achieving targets.
– Capable of visionary planning, innovation, and aligning strategies with organisational goals.
– Proficient in budgeting, financial sustainability, and resource allocation.
– Proven successful in building relationships with funders, partners, and communities; managing high-level engagements.
– Knowledge of social business, sustainable development, and impact measurement.
– Able to problem-solve with decisive, innovative leadership.
– Able to self-manage and confident in decision-making, leading a team, and working autonomously in a team based all over the world.

Other information:

– This role will be based in Manila, Philippines with occasional international travel.
