About Good Neighbours

Good Neighbours is an international development NGO founded in 1991 for the purpose of reducing poverty in some of the most marginalised communities around the world. It implements programs and projects to protect the rights of children and support vulnerable populations, helping them achieve self-reliance and rebuild hope.

Good Neighbours Australia (GNAU), established in 2018, supports programs across education, health, nutrition, water and sanitation, economic empowerment, and humanitarian relief, while also responding to needs within Australian communities.

GNAU is a member of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC), and holds Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) and Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) statuses.

Position Overview

The Finance and Operations Officer is responsible for supporting the program finance, including planning and monitoring across both international and national programs and overall administrative work across organisational operations

A key requirement is demonstrated experience managing donor-funded projects, including Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP) funding and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the financial management and compliance of international and domestic programs, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, acquittals, and expenditure monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements (including ANCP), maintain financial controls, support audits, and identify financial risks and variances.
  • Review partner financial reports, provide guidance on financial compliance, and support capacity-building initiatives and training.
  • Manage donor administration processes, including donation processing, receipting, CRM database maintenance, reconciliation, and fundraising reporting.
  • Provide operational and administrative support across the organisation, including HR administration, staff and volunteer onboarding, meeting coordination, policy reviews, and executive support.
  • Coordinate in-kind aid and logistics activities, including freight movements, customs and shipping documentation, partner liaison, shipment tracking, and import/export compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, international partners, donors, and service providers to ensure effective program delivery, financial accountability, and operational efficiency.

  Key Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in finance, program administration, or operations within the NGO, international development.
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, financial reporting, forecasting, and financial acquittals.
  • Knowledge of donor-funded programs and compliance requirements, preferably including ANCP and DFAT-funded projects.
  • Experience reviewing financial reports and supporting grant compliance, audits, and risk management processes.
  • Experience in CRM systems (Kindful or similar donor management platforms) and donor administration processes preferred.
  • Experience coordinating logistics, freight, shipping, or in-kind aid programs is highly desirable.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with donors, partners, staff, volunteers, and external stakeholders.
