ACFID has announced that it is seeking nominations for three major awards which will be presented at ACFID’s national conference on October 23-24, 2019.
ACFID is seeking nominations for the Sir Ron Wilson Human Rights Award, the Outstanding Contribution to the Sector Award, and the Media Award.
Commenting, CEO of ACFID, Marc Purcell, said: “The presentation of these awards is a highlight of our annual conference. It’s a chance to celebrate extraordinary work and contributions to the sector.”
In 2018 the Sir Ron Wilson Award – which recognises an outstanding contribution to advancing human rights – was presented to journalist and Iranian refugee, Behrouz Boochani, who is detained on Manus Island.
The ACFID Media Award – which recognise journalists delivering informed and sensitive stories about international development and humanitarian issues – was presented to the Australian’s South East Asia correspondent, Amanda Hodge for her coverage of the Rohingya crisis and her piece: ‘A mother’s wish: let Allah take him’.
The Outstanding Contribution to the Sector award – which recognises an outstanding contribution to the NGO sector over an extended period of time – was presented to Internationally-accredited partnership broker and leading expert in governance and entrepreneurship, Rhonda Chapman.
