The Australian Council for International Development, the peak body for development and humanitarian agencies welcomes the release of the Performance of Australian Development Cooperation (PADC) report for 2023-2024.

ACFID welcomes the release of the report which represents a huge step forward in the Australian Government’s commitment to a transparent development program.

The report has been delivered in a difficult context, with a growing number of international donors reducing the size of their development programs. This is coupled with rising poverty in Australia’s region, increased climate change, global economic pressures, and an emergence of a growing anti-rights movement.

The Australian development program represents just 0.68% of the Federal Budget yet, as the report highlights, makes a significant contribution to the safety, prosperity, and stability of communities around the globe. The PADC highlights some key achievements of the development program, including reaching 8.5 million people with emergency assistance, supporting 150 million people to gain access to social protection programs, and 5 million people benefiting from better food security and access to clean water and sanitation.

“ACFID welcomes the release of the PADC report today, which notes the invaluable contributions made by member NGOs to Australia’s development program,” said Matthew Maury, ACFID’s Interim CEO.

“In a challenging global environment, the Australian Government is reinvigorating its commitment to aid transparency after a decline in global rankings. They are making welcome steps towards this by developing an aid transparency portal and releasing this report that we have seen today,” said Mr. Maury.
