ACFID General Council unanimously passes resolution calling on Australian leaders to advance gender equality at Women Deliver 2026

Nov 5, 2025 | Media Releases

In 2025, the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) marks its 60th anniversary – a milestone that recognizes six decades of bold leadership, collective action, and tireless advocacy for a more just, sustainable, and equitable world.

The Annual General Meeting of the ACFID Conference has noted the importance of the Women Deliver Conference as a global convening moment for gender equality advocates, donors, and policy makers to share strategies and build solidarity to drive transformative change for women and girls.

On current projects, by 2030 more than 340 million women and girls will live in extreme poverty, close to one in four will experience moderate or severe food insecurity and women will still spend on average 2.3 more hours per day on unpaid care and domestic work than men.

Quotes attributable to Susanne Legena, CEO of Plan International Australia:

“Girls and women are under threat in our region and around the world. Their rights are challenged, and the climate crisis is disproportionately impacting them.

“There has never been a more important time to support girls and women to lead and thrive.

“Women Deliver, hosted by the Oceanic Pacific region for the very first time and held in Australia, must be a call to action for the Government and philanthropic actors to build on Australia’s previous leadership on gender equality by providing catalytic investment for girls and women in the Asia-Pacific region and around the world.”
