ACFID Council delegates the management and conduct of the financial and general affairs of ACFID, other than matters reserved for Council in its Constitution, to its Board which is elected by ACFID members. The 12 member ACFID Board comprises a President, three Vice Presidents and eight ordinary members. Board members serve three-year terms and are eligible for a consecutive reappointment. They are further eligible for reappointment after this, if they have a term gap. The President may only serve a maximum of two consecutive three-year terms.

Virginia Haussegger AM

President

Virginia Haussegger AM is an award-winning journalist, gender-equality advocate and media leader with more than three decades experience across journalism and its intersection with public policy. 

She has reported from global conflict zones, led national news broadcasts, and anchored flagship programs for the ABC, Channel Seven and Nine networks. For 15 years Virginia was chief anchor of ABC TV News Canberra 

A passionate champion for women’s rights, Virginia has reported extensively on gender and social justice issues, including undertaking a self-funded assignment to Afghanistan in 2009 to highlight the experiences of women and children. In 2016 she founded a gender equity research initiative at the University of Canberra, and launched BroadAgenda, a news platform to bridge public policy research into mainstream media.  

Virginia has received numerous honours, including the United Nations Media Peace Prize, the ACT Award for Excellence in Women’s Leadership, and in 2019 was named ACT Australian of the Year. She is a Member of the Order of Australia, Deputy Chair of media think-tank the Public Interest Journalism Initiative and has served on several boards and committees.
