ACFID welcomes $550 million commitment to Pacific-led climate and development priorities

Jan 27, 2026 | Media Releases

The Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) welcomes today’s announcement that will further strengthen Australia’s commitment to Pacific-led climate solutions by investing an additional $550 million in the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP).

The investment will help grow and improve critical infrastructure across the region, including climate-resilient infrastructure, renewable energy, water and transport.

“We note the Government’s commitment to scaling up climate-focused financing and partnerships that reflect Pacific priorities. This investment will help Pacific Island countries to strengthen climate resilience and build long-term economic and social stability, ideally prioritising concessional loans or grants that recognise fiscal constraints in the region,” said ACFID CEO, Matthew Maury.

“As Australia works alongside Pacific governments ahead of the 2026 pre-COP meeting, there is a need to enhance the involvement of civil society in the design and delivery of climate infrastructure projects,” continued Mr Maury.

ACFID and its members look forward to continuing their collaboration with the Australian Government and Pacific partners to ensure development programs are grounded in the priorities of Pacific peoples.
